Dear Parents,

Are you searching for a fun and engaging class to help your children learn or improve their German language skills?  Then join Musikgarten in Boston! For the past 17 years, I enjoyed sharing the gift of music and language with hundreds of children and their families. Our German music classes offer a unique way for young children to immerse themselves in the German language and culture. We are having great fun singing, dancing, playing instruments, and listening to stories and poems in German while learning rhythm and tonal patterns.

Our Musikgarten classes foster a love for German language and culture through the power of music. Connect with other awesome international families and build lasting friendships!

Our classes are fully inclusive, and our Somerville location is fully accessible. We welcome children of all abilities, and if you have a child with a disability, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Musikgarten in Boston

is based on the internationally known early childhood music program “Musikgarten”. Musikgarten in Boston offers German immersion music classes for children ages 0 – 14 and was founded by Dunja Pechstein in 2007. Dunja is a German native speaker, professional musician and a passionate teacher of early childhood music.

Our German music and language classes are an excellent way to immerse your bilingual or multilingual child in the German language, music and culture.

Most important and joyful class

Musikgarten with Dunja is the most important and joyful class I have enjoyed with my children over the past four years. My daughter (4) and son (1.5) have bloomed musically and built deep friendships with fellow German speakers. Dunja Pechstein

Dunja Pechstein, a native from Germany, has resided in the United States since 1997. She received her Masters of Music in vocal performance and diploma in vocal pedagogy from the Musikhochschule in Detmold, Germany.

Dunja and her husband lived in New York City for seven years. She taught voice at the United Nations International School, produced and sang the NYC premiere of the mono opera “the Diary of Anne Frank” by Grigori Frid and was the NYC based German diction coach for the international musical company Stella Musicals. She moved with her family to Boston in 2004.

Dunja sang in the Opera Boston production of “The Bartered Bride”,  produced the mono opera “Flower and Hawk” by Carlisle Floyd and sang concerts with the marimba player Fumito Nunoya. In 2007 she started to teach German immersion music classes for young children and founded “Musikgarten in Boston”. Dunja founded and conducted the German children’s choir “Kinderchor Boston” from 2014-2019. She gave workshops on the integration of music in German language education in Bozen, Italy, the GISB, the German Saturday School Boston and the “German Language School Conference”, NYC.

In addition to offering German Musikgarten classes, Dunja is working as a Teaching Artist for the organization Open Door Arts and is currently teaching at a BPS elementary school with inclusion and a large population of English language learners.
